How to remove brake light bulb from socket. To remove a broken lightbulb from the socket start by putting on gloves and safety glasses to protect yourself from shards of glass. Unscrew the old bulb. Start with the obvious suspect.
Turn the power off and let the bulb cool. With age those bulbs dont want to co-operate. Best solution for us has been two pair of needle nose pliers grasp each insideoutside edge per plier straight in opposite sides of the socket and use both pliers to twist it out easily.
Unplug your lamp or turn off the switch and wait about two minutes for the bulb to cool. Brake 7443 Reverse 7440. Grasp the socket and turn it counterclockwise to unscrew it.
If the bulb sticks carefully work the bulb back and forth twisting both clockwise and counterclockwise to loosen the threads. Try wiggling the bulb if it wont come out. Cut a two-foot-long strip of duct tape.
Gently grip the bulb by the metal part of the plug and depress it slightly into the socket to release it. Cut the tape and make a loop. Pull the bulb from the socket and discard it.
Works great on that broken bulb in the back of the oven too. Find old broom with screw in wooden handle. Many new car bulbs are easily accessed from under the hood by turning a retaining ring and pulling the bulb socket out but if you have to access the bulb by removing a lens see your owners manual you may need to buy a torx tip screwdriver.
